Alex Dinkels, Principal


Alex Dinkels is the Principal of Marathon Capital Strategies, a financial and swap advisory firm founded in 2018.  Having over 20 years years of capital markets experience, Mr. Dinkels specializes in senior living and nonprofit finance, providing comprehensive financial advisory with respect to all aspects of borrower capital strategy and investment, as well as bond and swap structuring, pricing and execution.  

Prior to founding Marathon, Mr. Dinkels was Managing Director at Fairmount Capital Advisors, an independent financial advisory firm servicing nonprofits and governments.  At Fairmount, Mr. Dinkels led the firm’s senior living sector as well as its swap and investment advisory engagements.  Since joining the firm in 2004, he successfully completed over 100 debt financing, swap and bond proceed reinvestment transactions, totaling over $5 billion in combined par and notional value.

Prior to Fairmount, Mr. Dinkels was a currency derivative analyst with AIG International’s trading group based in Greenwich, Connecticut and at BNP Paribas' North American headquarters located in midtown New York.  He has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Delaware. 

Mr. Dinkels is a Municipal Advisor Representative (Series 50) and a Municipal Advisor Principal (Series 54).

Albert Rivera, Director


Mr. Rivera provides day-to-day analytical support and assistance for Marathon’s financial and swap advisory engagements.  Before joining Marathon in March 2018, Mr. Rivera was an Associate at Fairmount Capital Advisors.  Since joining Fairmount in 2015, Mr. Rivera serviced much of the firm’s analytical and technical needs across a variety of nonprofit sectors.  His analytical skill set includes development of financial projections, credit analysis, debt capacity studies, refinancing analysis, bond sizing, structuring and pricing analytics, as well as swap pricing and valuation.  Additionally, Mr. Rivera is also responsible for developing  capital market briefs and bond pricing memorandums; he serves as the firm's in-house rate specialist having analyzed hundreds of municipal and nonprofit bond offerings across the entire credit spectrum.

Prior to joining Fairmount, he interned as a junior management consultant for an independent consulting firm. Mr. Rivera has a BS in Finance from Rutgers University, Camden and an MS in Mathematical Finance from Boston University.

Mr. Rivera is a Series 50 Municipal Advisor Representative.

Dan Connelly, Senior Advisor


Mr. Connelly has over 20 years of financial consulting and advisory experience at the federal, state, and local government levels. Before joining Marathon, Mr. Connelly also worked at Fairmount Capital Advisors.   At Fairmount, Mr. Connelly  worked on a wide range of financing transactions in the local government, senior living, healthcare, and higher education sectors. Mr. Connelly has advised on over 30 debt financings, hedging, and bond proceed/escrow investment transactions totaling over $1.5 billion in par/notional amount. Mr. Connelly provides transaction management, credit analysis, financial planning, refunding analysis, credit enhancement strategy, arbitrage rebate, and escrow verification services to governmental and non-profit entities.

Mr. Connelly also led Fairmount’s government consulting practice. He led engagements such as five-year financial planning and budgeting, financial feasibility studies, and strategic planning, among others. Mr. Connelly has extensive experience with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Act 47 distressed municipalities program and the Early Intervention Program.  

Before joining Fairmount, Mr. Connelly worked for almost four years as a project manager for the management consulting firm American Management Systems. At AMS, he was responsible for managing strategic planning and certification programs for organizations within the U.S. Navy. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Public Administration with a certificate in public finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government.

Mr. Connelly is a Series 50 Municipal Advisor Representative.
